Tomorrow we'll be leaving our home for 8 months. I guess it's inevitable that packing up for this amount of time is tiring and stressful...do you know how hard it is to pack for multiple seasons and everything from 6 months pregnant to 5 months post-baby? It's now 12:30am, and we'll be leaving for the airport around 2:30pm. Hopefully we'll manage to get some sleep. You can see that Noah has become quite the helper when it comes to packing...poor kid has been pretty neglected the past few days, but he's been doing a great job helping me pack up the house and get our suitcases ready.
In honor of 4th of July (which didn't really happen here, though I did make a cake on Sunday with red, white, and blue sprinkles =)) and in honor of our upcoming return to the US, I thought I'd post a few of my thoughts on "How you know your kid is NOT from the US":
- He makes a high-pitched noise to turn on lights (stairwell lights are sound-activated).
- He sees a place that has grass and trees and immediately says, "So nice!" (meaning that grass and trees are not normal)
- At the restaurant, he takes my trash off the table and throws it on the ground (which is actually the proper place for it in our town).
- He thinks that regularly riding airplanes is a normal way of life.
- He thinks bumpy roads are fun and prefers walking on the bumpy roads instead of the sidewalk.
- He thinks it's normal to buy groceries that are simply laid out on the ground (his favorite is watching the fish in the large buckets).
- He thinks firecrackers are normal, though he still doesn't like the loud noise.
- He thinks lifting his bowl at meal times and slurping the contents is totally legit.
So, be forewarned, he's going to be culturally "off" when we get back. Haha, actually, I think we all will be. So forgive us when we accidentally slurp too loud or throw trash on the ground!
